Annual K9 Trial and Public Safety Fair
The Riverside County Sheriff's Department K9 Team hosts a K9 competition and public safety fair every year, inviting law enforcement agencies from all over the state and country to come and compete in a K9 competition hosted in the County of Riverside. Dog and handler teams compete in a two-day competition designed to test narcotic detection, evidence location, protection, agility and obedience. For law enforcement agencies, these competitions are instrumental in the further education of K9 teams by comparing training programs and team performance.
These competitions and safety fairs help K9 teams to learn new ways to train their police service dogs and help the public to understand what our K9 programs do. This trial will have police service dogs and their handlers from throughout the country competing for the coveted “Top Dog” trophy, while families, friends, and the community members watch. The public safety fair will also have displays from various Riverside Sheriff’s Department Teams, local businesses, as well as food and fun for the whole family.
This competition and safety fair is held annually on the first Friday and Saturday in November, location to be determined. The competition will be limited to the first 60 pre-registered K9 teams. Due to space constraints, unregistered teams may be turned away on the day of the event. The second day of the competition is open to the public and the Riverside County Sheriff's Department hosts a public safety fair on site adjacent to the competition. Representatives from local fire departments, the Riverside County Underwater Search and Recovery Team, Mounted Posse, Hazardous Device Team, Special Enforcement Bureau, and Aviation Team are on site to provide demonstrations to the public while the K9 teams compete. The public safety fair is a rare opportunity to see public safety's finest at work.
